I was wondering if the STG 58 is legal to own in Canada without a prohibit FAC. I think it falls under the same class as the FAL, but I was told all you needed was a restricted FAC because it is a compition rifle. I really don't know, could use some help. If they are legal to own could you please tell me where I can get one. thanks

The bearer of bad news....

http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/info_for-renseignement/factsheets/r&p_e.asp

Former Prohibited Weapons Order No. 13 (in effect since January 1, 1995)

The firearm of the design commonly known as the FN-FAL (FN-LAR) rifle, and any variant or modified version of it, including the FN 308 Model 44, FN-FAL (FN-LAR) Competition Auto, FN-FAL (FN-LAR) Heavy Barrel 308 Match, FN-FAL (FN-LAR) Paratrooper 308 Match 50-64 and FN 308 Model 50-63.

They are either a 12(3) or 12(5) prohibited class firearm. You are unable to get one unless you have a time machine.

Thanks guys, I was hoping there where legal, I'am trying to get this type of rifle for my father 60th Birthday, he shot a C1A1 in the services and says it was the best rifle he ever used. If anybody knows of way ex-military can get their old firearms it would greatly be appreciated, I have a feeling that this is impossible task. I might just have to buy him a deactived rifle, that would probaly piss him off but the law is the law. Thanks again for the info.

Ex-military have no special abilities when it comes to using/acquiring firearms. They are the same as the rest of us civies and therefore, there is unfortunately no way for your father to acquire a working FAL...the only option available for him (and the rest of us who are not grandfathered) is a deactivated FAL. :(

Which would probably be similar to but less satisfying than having ### with an inflatable doll:D

Or an M1A (M14) by Springfield, or the cheaper Norinco M14. Same caliber, and have a simlar "classic look" to them.

But otherwise, as everyone has said, a deactivated FAL. Real shame!

Maybe you could get him a Schmidt-Rubin K31. The Swiss army didn't obsolete them until the late '50's...

*Edit - Oops... I just realized the StG 58 was an Austrian rifle... My apologies

What about the sigs? Think about it...take a classic green and have a talented woodworker (ahem) make you upo some wood furniture........Voila.

Wood Furniture on a PE90? Woo.. that would look very nice, but I can just imagine how heavy it'd be!
