Sti ar rifle

Sport and Tactical models seem nice. Fairly priced I suppose.

The only thing mentioned is that the rifles do not have M4 feed ramps, but I have also not heard of gremlins because of this.

The only negative I have heard of is some STI firearms are possibly off-shore produced.

There are a couple reviews on the internet, but not to much to go off of. STI's website doesn't even have a whole lot of specs on their rifles listed. I have a upper/lower reciever set on the way and can compare the machining and fit, but thats about it till i complete the build. There is a lot of good reviews on their handguns.

A couple of guys at my club have the STI AR's and love them. They're a great rifle and lots of extras already installed for the price you pay.

have a stripped lower for a build. Inside mag well on it is extremly tight. Inserting a mag is difficult and removing it is more difficult. I would return iy but I installed the lpk before I noticed. check your magwell clearance first.

I have the STI competition model and has work flawlessly for me.I like that it is light ,it has a nice light trigger on it,not much recoil, get 1 1/2" to 2" groups at $200 yard
with factory ammo.It is my rifle that I use for all my 3 gun matches in the USA.Never have had any problems with magazines, will take any make that i put in it.the only problem that i have had is the forearm comes loose over time and just needs a little loctite on The price is right on them.I don't know weather this helps but best of luck on what ever you decide on.

Lonewolf! Can you make a review of your rifle please,i found anything on youtube!

I have also used the STI rifle and had nary an issue (also except for the handguard coming loose. I've have since upgraded the upper to something more suited to me, but I am rocking the lower. Here is a quick 2 minute muzzle to stock review. I am going based on memory here, so don't expect too much.

The STI (IIRC) comes in two models....tactical and competition...the difference being the length of the handguard and the type of gas block. If I had to go back, I would of definitely gone with the competition model since I rarely ever shoot iron sights. 7.62mm also has this same rifle (the tactical model) and would burn is supporting fingers on the exposed gas block.

Compensator - Comes with a JP comp...I think you can go standard or corvette comp though the difference is only aesthetic. The comp is extremely effective unless you go urban prone or something like that. When that happens, the comp tends to through dust and dirt up everywhere. Oh yeah, the guys beside you won't like this comp so much (the same as any other effective comp out there)

Barrel - 16" pencil/thin profile barrel helps to keep this rifle extremely light. It groups well enough for competition. I remember reading that the barrels were Green Mountain barrels are were not so favoured by some of the members on the US forums I frequent, but I never did officially confirm who the barrel manufacturer was. It is odd that the manufacturing details on STIs website seem to be missing.

Handguard - the Valkryie handguard was also one of the lightest handguards I've handled, which contributes to its lightweight. Having a lightweight rifle can be a real plus in 3 gun. The only con here is that without some locktite, it will come loose. If it happens during a stage, it can be awkward, though not damning.

Upper receiver - pretty standard here. Doesn't have the M4 feedramps but I have never had an issue with it.

Lower receiver - includes JP trigger/springs effectively giving a very crisp 2.75# trigger. I compared it to my buddies drop in timney and didn't notice a difference at all. I have never had an issue with binding mags and my lower mates perfectly with my new upper.

Stock - I quickly switched out the fixed stock for a standard T6 collapsable....and then quickly changed that for a CTR. I am pretty happy with the CTR.

I bought my rifle from freedom ventures, I think he is the official STI supplier in Canada. Great guy to buy from.

Cheers,

I did the same but no issue with mag well. Seems comparable to my Colt although the STI receiver is slightly thinner. I notice the pins for the hammer/trigger protrude a little bit more than on my Colt. So far my rifle is just a competed lower with stock. Need to get more parts.
