STI Guide Rod vs Recoil Master

I am about to start shooting .357 Sig from my STI Edge

The .40 cal Edge, with bull barrel, came with a Recoil Master, but I don't know how it will go with the .357 Sig

I like the idea of being able to change spring rates and having a heavy tungsten guide rod

Has anyone done this change, that can offer some advice

What I would like to know is other than the guide rod and springs, what do I need for a bull barrel?

Do I need a reverse plug or just a spring cap?

Is that end of a 2011 any different from a 1911?

Any advice would be most welcome

Cheers

Don't know but the 40 edge come with a heavy spring recoil master also used with the 45. While not as customizable as the straight spring option, I would think the heavy recoil master would be fine for standard 357 sig ammo.

Curious though where did you get your 357 barrel? I imagine it had to be custom fitted?

I bought a blank 9mm barrel from Freedom Ventures and had it custom fitted by Clarence at Bumblbee in Prince George

I haven't shot it yet, as I was waiting for my chrono to arrive, working up some loads and for the weather to be nice and to get a day off work

Lots of excuses, but I'll get there

Sounds like a cool project. Always liked the 357 sig. Report back on how it shoots etc...

Yep, no worries,

It was born out of necessity, I can't shoot .40 cal in IPSC in Australia, but I can shoot .357 Sig, it is the only way that is sanctioned to achieve Standard Major in Oz

Being as I have put a lot of time into this gun, and the fact that they are half the price here, I shall be taking it with me when I go back

Have you considered a Sprinco recoil reducer?

It's a dual spring system but you can install whatever weight recoil spring that works best for you. I've got one on my STI USPSA Single Stack (.40 S&W) with a 10 lb spring and it works well.

A buddy has one in his STI Executive (also .40 S&W) with a 12 lb spring which is the weight he prefers.

Thanks, I'll have a look at that
