I have an STI Executive .40 the recoil spring is actually 2 springs called "recoil master". What is the advantage? Also working the slide by hand all the way back I can feel the "rubbing" of the springs inside the spring tube. I have compared the rough feeling of my slide with a SVI and a STI Edge, both without the recoil master, and they are very smooth. Any comments or thoughts on this "new"(?) system? Thanks

The Recoil Master isn't all that new - I'm pretty sure they've been around for at least two years (I think that's about when I replaced by (broken) tungsten guide rod in my Edge). You'll find that helps to reduce muzzle flip and generally helps keep your front sight from moving around too much.

If you don't care for the "springy" feeling (I personally can't feel it when I'm shooting) slather on some "Slide Glide" (available through Brian Enos' website). That really reduces any feeling of the springs compressing.

Or... you can put in a stainless steel guide rod.

All Executives and Edges for the past 3 years have come with a recoilmaster standard. (as do Stingers, Trusights, Tacticals and Ranger IIs...)

I do find it brings the gun back on target quicker and smoother than the other option; tungsten. Some GMs prefer the weight to the RM, but overall we sell a lot of Recoilmasters...

STI Edge 40

Tried shooting with and without the recoilmaster - Not a lot of difference provided that I maintained a firm grip on the piece. For single handed shooting there might just be an advantage to using the RM - Just a personal viewpoint....

I use a Recoil Master from Freedom Ventures. I have gone to the range and tried multiple set-ups with standard rod, with/without buffer, polymer rod with/wiithout buffer all of which with different spring weights and at the end of the day the gun came home with the Recoilmaster in it. It definitely changes the feel of the gun, and I agree, I find the gun responds much quicker, and consistent. When I have a really good grip and stance, I realize I am not good enough yet to take full advantage of it. It does work. I am using an IPSC Open gun, 9x21 Major PF, 115gr bullet, 4 chamber comp, 4 side ports, and 5 blow holes in the barrell.
