STI Rangemaster or Targetmaster

in 9mm. What would be your choice and why? I have done some searches on the net but would like some input from those here. Thanks.

I don't know all the differences but the Targetmaster is approved for PPC competition whereas the Rangemaster is not, I believe because of the full length shroud on the slide (extra weight ) Neither approved for IPSC. There is a beautiful brand new Targetmaster available in EE right now so please buy it and put me out of my misery before I go crazy (again) & buy it myself!!

Here's a link to a review of the TM:

While the RangeMaster is a top quality gun, the TargetMaster is the way to go. Especially in 9mm. It has all the features for winning PPC and behind the right hand, it could be a better shooter than a comparable purpose-built PPC revolver.
The RangeMaster is in the same class as S&W's top of the line PPC Performance Center 9mm, the SigSauer X6 and the like.
And it's still cheaper than a SigP210!

I have a chromed Targetmaster in 9mm...
Handles like any good 1911 should.
Scary accurate using factory ammo ( non-match ammo).
The Sig210 is nice, tends to 'bite' more than a few shooter's hands, but is way more money...also try and source spares!
The S&W PPC Performance Center units are also very nice, but I opted for the STI as it should be easier to service, being basically a 9MM 1911.
Money wise, there isn't much to choose between the S&W and the STI.

Thanks all for the info. My next newbie questions are: what is a guide rod? What is the advantage of a one piece/two piece? and can anyone tell me what the sti recoilmaster system is and why it is not on these models?

Foxbat do you shoot PPC and if so do regular 1911 holsters such as the blackhawk fit the 6" targetmaster?

If the STI Targetmaster in 9mm shoots anything like my Targetmaster in 45acp I'd go with it!! My Targetmaster is capable of hitting a 10" X 12" steel plate at 100 yards 6 out of 8 shots, from a rest, using my own cast 200 grain bullets.
