Was wondering how hard is it to add a rail to a STI Ranger II in 9mm? Going to mount a TLR-2 to it and use it hard;) so would welding be an option? Could the frame be refinished to match? Or would a two tone look be a better option. Who in Canada can do this work? Would a rail from Caspian Arms be ideal or is there a better low profile rail?(link?) What who be the cost of such a mod with parts and labour? Was disapointed in hearing that a Duty frame was not avalible from STI as part of a Factory package for a new Ranger II.(E-mailed Freedom Arms already)
I just want a quality 9mm 1911 in a Commander style slide size. The STI Tactical 4.15 is an option but would much prefer a single stack metal frame. Love the look of the Ranger II. Is there other dealers that can offer this? The people at Taurus offer a 1911 full size 5" with rail in 9mm, but no Commander size.
Any help or links/referrals would be much appreciated:D Thanks

Kimber TLE w/ Novak/Dawson rail

Instead of posting a new thread, I thought I'd just resurrect this old but related one.

I'm looking at getting a Kimber and I thought I just wanted the base Custom II. Then I wanted night sights and the price dif between a Custom w/ night sites and the TLE is small. But then I thought it might be a good idea to get a rail system. So now it's a TLE/RL II. The cost of upgrading from the TLE to TLE/RL is about 150$. Would it be more economical to get the TLE/RL from the get go or should I get a TLE and add a Novak/Dawson rail later?

Can anyone figure out where to get either of these rails and how much as well as the cost for a gunsmith to put the holes in (I'm not experienced w/ a drill press and more importantly I don't have one).

Thanks.

If you have the option to get it from factory as a intergrated part of the lower frame, DO IT! Any after market add on will always be weaker than a machined frame with a rail. Spend the money now or later but do it right the first time if you can afford the extra $$$;) Spend your money on the TLE/RL if you can. Lots of dealers for the Kimbers so shop around for the best price.

I've been leaning toward the rail model but just wanted to get some opinions. Thanks icedragon.

Does anyone know how the Kimber rail is manufactuered? From the pictures, it looks like it's just added ontop of the existing dustcover.

Coming soon, hopefully...
