Stick with Lyman 48 or switch to Redfield 80?

I recently picked up a Remington 1917, unfortunately it has been sporterized but it was done tastefully. At one time it had a Lyman 48rs mounted on the right side. The slide is missing. In looking around for either a new slide or a complete sight it has been strongly suggested to me that I consider replacing the Lyman with a Redfield 80. I like the idea of keeping the Lyman but they certainly are not as easy to come by. Should I broaden my horizons and consider other sights? Are there pros and cons to the Lyman and Redfield? Would the mounting screws and stock cutaway even line up with the Redfield? From what I am being told, the Lyman that was on this rifle looks like an early(even prewar) short slide 48rs. Much of what I am finding online seems to boil down to personal preference. I have no experience with these sights so your experiences and suggestions would be most welcome.
