Hi All,

Just purchased my SKS last week, and in cleaning it up for its first use, i noticed that the rod in my gas chamber (assuming that's what it is called- the tube in front of the rear sights) gets "stuck" when the gas chamber is off the gun, and the rod has slid towards the rear of the chamber. Is this normal? Also, i read that the gas chamber has to remain dry, which would not help rectify this issue. Is this expected behavior? Comments?

When you first get this rifle you should strip it down and clean everything. Exam the spring and the op rod to make sure that they are in good working order and clean. If the problem still persists please post some pic's so some of the more knowledgeable people on this site can chime in.

Mine does the same thing, if it slides back to the rear of the gas tube, it gets stuck, right? I just give it a light tap if I let that happen.

:agree:

Totally normal.

My theory is the rod guide moves a bit and grabs it as it is unsupported while out of the rifle. Nothing to worry about...tap back in and go.
