I have this Francisco Sarriugarte 12 ga 2-3/4" O/U shotgun. The extractors are very stiff. When I put a shell in the lower chamber and try to close the gun, the rim of the shell will bend before the gun will close. If I close the gun partway and then push the extractor in a little with my finger, then the gun will close. Its otherwise fine - fires and patterns very nicely.

Examining the extractors closely, there appears to be some corrosion on the left side of the barrel in the slot the extractor slides in. Is there any easy way to deal with this? I don't see any obvious way to remove the extractors to clean under there. I put some break free CLP on there this morning to see if I can work it loose, but I would prefer to be able to get in there with some steel wool and polish the inside surfaces.

Any ideas?

Your picture does not show much...

It may not be obvious but there is a way. I would venture a guess there will be either a plunger/spring that needs to be depressed, or a screw removed.

Any holes to explore in the sides of the extractor?

Any gunsmiths in your area?

Hi Mike ;

I purchased a Laurona recently and at least on this brand

the extractors can be removed as follows ;

(a) remove forearm

(b) remove barrel

(c) the extractors are held in place with screw on each side

(d) be careful , there are springs powering the extractors

mine had a little bit of rust and grundge in the slots that the extractors

run in that I cleaned out using a rotary brass brush and Dremel tool

Added some gun grease in the slots. Very slick now

Yours should be similar

hmmm, mine don't seem to be under spring tension at all. Maybe these aren't spring-loaded but its also possible I have a broken spring in there.

I'll have a closer look this evening and post some detailed photos if I get stuck.

When the shotgun is fired and you open the action, do the empty hulls eject from the firearm? If the hulls just lift from the chambers then they are extractors only. It is possible that there is rust or corrosion in the extractor slot/hole or the extractor is slightly burred or bent. Only way to know for sure is to disassemble and inspect.

There are no ejectors on this gun.

PS - got it off, just one screw on the left side. Seems to move more smoothly now, loads OK with snap caps but it did before as well. I won't know for sure until I stuff some live shells down the tubes but I think it will be better now.
