Still a Long Way to Go

Last fall I took the three weekend FAC course and passed both tests, waited for the results, mailed in my app for the PAL, waited and got it in the mail about a week ago.

I had gone to a gun club and put my app in for membership, found out I need to pass a safety course which is fine by me cause I know I'm rusty. I went to a gun shop and bought a pistol after looking at what was available in what I wanted for a first gun (not too heavy, 9mm, very reliable, easy to disassemble and service) so I got a Glock 17 4th generation.

I'll take delivery soon but I have to get the storage completed and now I'm thinking that every cheap thief in the world is going to bash in my front door and ransack the place when I'm not home and steal my gun.

It's not buyers remorse but it feels like it... Is this common?

Can I get a word of encouragement from the cheering section?

edit-- I realized I didn't say much about myself,, I'm 62 and have always wanted to own a gun and shoot at a club and be with people who feel the same way about the sport. Back about 20 years or more when it was ok to own without hunting I used to trap shoot and enjoyed it immensely. Pistol ownership seemed so difficult at that time I never got into it. When I decided to take up shooting again and found the road to possession was just as difficult for either PAL I thought why not go for restricted firearms too. I'm glad I did, everyone I have met so far is so positive about the sport.

Call me Hal ,,,, and thanks.

Worry

I would say understandable concerns. Funny, the older I get the more I worry. I am 60. If you follow the law to the letter, do what ever you can to "theft proof" and use common sense about who knows what you have, you will be just fine. One time years ago I owned something like 58 handguns. I survived.
Why should you not try a sport that would make you happy in your "golden years" by worrying about something that will never happen.
Welcome to the forum, I have had nothing but fun on here, great members and VERY knowledgeable members who go out of their way to help.

Wife

58...geeze...jealousy right here!

Ok, I was bragging, some of those included my wife's handguns. In addition to my working guns I got to collecting WWII handguns, Lugers, Broomhandle Mausers, Beretta etc etc and just couldn't stop. (STOP ME before I buy again).
Also owned a Maxim 08 Heavy Water Cooled machine gun made by DWM in 1917 and a full auto FN FAL. Ah, the good old days. Auto license ceased, well didn't cease, just no new ones ever being issued, in 1979 when the FAC came into being.

You know, just store it legal, include it on a rider for your insurance, and relax.
Trash beaks into people's homes every few minutes in Canada, and I see no statisical evidence that they target gun owners. Certainly some do, and certainly large collections attract some trash, but I see no reason to sweat a gun or two.

And, if someone does steal it, and then it gets used on the street to to kill a kid in a drive-by, well, unless you were tripping the trigger, it ain't your fault. Notwithstanding some Ontario Crown prosecutors efforts to the contrary, you are not responsible for the crminal acts of others. (In Canada, it would appear they aren't either, but that is another story.)

Welcome to the forum. Lots of good folks and help here!!.
Where you at? Listing your area is always a good start here. I joined not long ago and found a few people that shoot at the same club. This is also a pretty decent place to order ammo/supplies.
As for perps ransacking your house . . . don't put a "House Protected by Glock Security" sticker on the window :)
