A while back I posted about deciding on a scope for my CZ 452 Varmint, got some great advice and suggestions, (thanks to all who helped) and finally decided on a Leupold VXII 4-12x40 AO. All was well and all I had to do was buy... until somebody pointed out the Rimfire line of scopes from Leupold, the VX-2 Ultralight EFR Riflescope 3-9x 33mm AO in particular.

So now I am unsure of which would better suit the Varmint for hunting and target shooting. I want the advantage of AO which is on both scopes, I am just unsure if purchasing the rimfire model would be in any way "better" or beneficial in the end?

Can anyone offer any insight into this situation? I am trying to make the right decision and buy right the first time... Thanks in advance.

I've got both, and put a 3-9 AO on my 452 Varmint. The trade off is that the 3-9 dials down parallax better for the closest ranges, where the 4-12 has a bit more power and bulk

I had the same issue scoping my 17. Didn't want anything more than a 3-9 as it is for small varmints and target shooting. Went with a 3-9x40 diamondback. Sighting in last week it was fine at 100yds but shooting at 50yds the target was blurry. Went back yesterday and exchanged it for an elite 3-9x40 limited edition with side focus he had in the back that I've never heard of and it seems to do everything I need it to.

neither is a bad choice both are great in fact. I use a 5.5-22 x56 with ao, you really can use anything you want. my sons use red dots and we all hit what we aim at.
