Stiller PREDXATOR .338 Lapua action

I am in the midst of barrelling a new PREDXATOR action in .338 Lapua.

What a sweet action... an inch of 1.125 x 16 threads. The action is like a scaled up 700. Everything is slightly larger,,, except for the tolerances. :D

Recessed bolt nose with a large but compact claw extractor about a 1.25 " long. It's a close fit in the barrel recess. Magazine opening is just under 4 inches. I don't know what it takes for bottom metal, my customer hasn't supplied that yet.

Love the action and the straight bolt. I've been contemplating the same action as a single shot.

What stock is the customer planning on using?

27 inch Lilja... fairly light as a hunting rifle, with a Holland brake added.

I'll post more info when I have it... unknown to me at this time as to stock and bottom metal...

Funny- First thing that I liked is the fluted bolt and that the bolt knob was not one of those tacky "tacticool" bolt knobs.

Ya Ya I know a fluted bolt serves no real purpose, but it sure looks good!

I am real interested in how this gun turns out as well, I was thinking of ordering the same action with the same purpose- hunting.

Please post a picture and the specs when you are finished.

I have also been considering this or the Tac 338 action (not sure if there is any practical diferennce?) for a LR hunting rig. I too prefer the smaller bolt knob, and the added length of the stiller bolt handle. I have a tacticool bolt knob on my .308, and would not do it again.

I fully believe that a lot of the tactical bolt knobs are too big and because of that will have some imput into how ours will be built. The bolt knob that is on the stiller action, I believe is still quite small and theres no reason to neck the handle down before putting the M&M sized knob on it. As for the fluted bolt, the flutes on these bolts look rounded and shallow but from first hand experience with the Nesika fluted bolt vs the non-fluted bolt, the non-fluted bolts cycle way smoother then the fluted ones because of the constent smooth surface vs the interrupted surface.
Also, why they carve a portion of the structure of action away to engrave their name is counterproductive to the entegrity of action itself. I'm not a strucural engineer but having a continuous wall thickness front to back makes more structural sense then creating a thin spot for weakness.
 
The bolt is very smooth in the action... the portion of the action "carved" away is only a 50 thou cut to make a 1/2 inch wide flat for the name ...

... it certainly has not affected the stability of the action.

The TAC30 bolt runs smooth as Dennis has said. The "tacky" bolt knob isn't obnoxiously large. If it were, I would have ordered the Predator instead.

me to throw my dual port BAT action out as the second port has structurely compromised the integrity of the action.:confused:;)

Firstly, thank-you for the side profile picture of that stiller action. That shed some light on how little was taken off which looks like more from the side.

Regarding BAT actions, I've never seen such thick chamber walls as on a BAT action, even if they have a second port. It's almost an optical illusion looking at a bullet sitting in the action.

The spiral fluting is to keep gunk from binding in the action (and look cool:rolleyes:), and I like the knob on my TAC30. The Stiller Predator and TAC is IMO the best bang for your buck in custom actions right now.
Guntech, Williams make good bottom metal and boxes for those, and Badger makes a great mag kit for the Stiller/Rem in 338 Lapua.
