Curious as to if you bear hunters use stink buckets to bring em in. I am trying a new bait site this year and need some tips on bringing bears in. Last year was the first year I actually tried baiting. Had 6 different bears in at my deer site so set a barrel up couple hundred yards away and tried my luck. Thinking on trying a new spot this year but looking for advice on setting up. Would you recommend a stink bucket to draw them in or something else to get their attention.

Stink buckets and honey burns etc are great..... But if you want repeat visitors, you need a sustainable bait like corn or popcorn in a barrel....... The stinky stuff draws them in...... But if there is nothing there long term they will move on.... Bears are creatures of opportunity....

Yeah for filling my barrel I have 100kg of popcorn kernels I am going to pop and mix with various different things, have 400 outdated loaves of bread, lots of old timmies doughnuts and cookies, 10 5gallon buckets of old fryer grease plus will be getting more as the season gets closer. Mainly looking for something to bring them in to start off.

A couple of my tried and true new bait site "bringers"

These are trade secrets so I'll start you out with 2 :p

Dollar store super soaker full of fryer grease(strained through a t-shirt) paint the trees.

A loaf of day old white bread. Throw it around your new bait, especially where the tree canopy is open. The birds will find the bread and bring the bears...that's how they find winter kill that's downwind :)

Try dog food the cheapest you can find .... Usually if you buy in big amounts it's cheaper..... And use old fryer oil .... Try this or do what you want find the smallest drill bit you can find ...drill a couple of holes in bottom of bucket.. Fill with dog food..and oil. Tie rope to handle and pull up about 6..8 feet.... Do like 3..6 buckets like that oil dripping --smell.. Dog food meal...... And for a powerful smell go buy the cheapest water flavour crystals or hot chocolate powder!!!CAUTION if bears are in area be ready with rifle.... I had like 3charge me.....and throw powder on ground and up in the air and on trees ... Get old bread and stick it on branches all over the smell ...... Be ready with rifle !!!!! And have fun

Fish guts and carcasses caught over the winter in onion bags nailed high to the tree as well as bacon fat and fryer grease that restaurants are happy to get rid of painted on the tree's to help them find the bait site.

Then a barrel loaded with donuts and other breads and pastries to keep them coming back has never let me down.

Just make sure that you don't let your baits run dry for very long once they start coming in or they will move on to the next guys baits.

I do use the stink bucket technic. I keep all my fish guts from the ice fishing season and fill the bucket to the 3/4 level. I leave them in the sun untill ready to bait. I cut hole in the top 1/4 of the bucket top let the fume out without having crow go chew in it.
For the baiting par i use a drum with 1.5inch hole in it and fill it with rolled oats, crack corn, whole corn and dried cranberries, all that mix with table syrup.
I fill a 5gal bucket with the cheapest dog food, poor some grease/oil in it and all around the bait site. I do use meet/bone scrap untill a few bear hit the bait, i mostly use that to bring the crow in and they will help bring the bear in.

Fill a pail with suckers, put a lid on and let it do its thing..It will turn into oil like 75-90. Use this oil for attractant..
