Before I buy my first handgun I am trying to figure out who else sells conversion barrels from .40 to 9mm
Is there anywhere in Canada that sells these new?
I know midway usa sells them in the states but I can't find anything for up here.

I know my other option would be a Storm Lake conversion kit but paying $300 is steep considering a S&W one is $80 at most online.

Thank you for your help.

Is it actually a conversion or just a standard barrel in a different calibre?

Murray Charlton sells barrels, as they are the S&W parts/warranty centre in these parts I do believe.

I bought a replacement barrel for a bulged 9mm from him. Was $120 + Tax and shipping I believe.

I've been toying with this idea for my M&P .40 as well. Hard to know what to believe you read lots of stories saying a OE 9mm barrel will work just fine, then others say its going to cause issues and to get a 9mm conversion barrel.

I posted a thread regarding this and links to the original information. From what I found out the stock 9mm barrel and stock 9mm magazines have performed flawlessly in the .40

The M&P frames and all parts contained therin are identical for the 9MM, .40cal and .357sig. The variations come with the slides or at least with the barrel and then only the bore diameter. The M&P was originally designed around the .40cal . Magazines for the three calibers dimensionaly are the same albeit with narrower or wider feed lips.. I regularly swap top ends between my 9MM/.40cal FS and Pro versions.

After market conversion barrels might offer somewhat tighter lock up which in theory should provide better accuracy. To max out accuracy a fitted match after market barrel would be the way to go. Bar Sto is now offering barrels I believe that must be fitted. Drop in barrels are always a compromise.

Take Care

Bob

I just got an email from Murray saying they can't send me just a barrel due to smith and Wesson policy ?
Does this make sense?

You might want to indicate that you have a 9mm already and need a replacement barrel. This would not be against policy. Just dont mention its for a .40 cal :)

I recently sold my M&P40 for a Beretta 92 Inox, but....

After purchasing it I bought a 9mm barrel for it. I bought the actual M&P9mm barrel and it fits right into the slide. ***Apparently the .40 barrel won't fit into the 9mm slide.

I bought my barrel from Brownells for about $60+ bucks and had it shipped to a US postal address just over the Rainbow Bridge.
I then drove it across the border. It is NOT illegal to bring the barrel into Canada. Upon declaring it to the Customs officer he simply asked me to go in and pay the tax. (I had a few other items, too). He didn't go on "high alert" or anything!

***(in a nutshell) Be advised that it IS HIGHLY ILLEGAL under US terrorism laws (ITAR) to EXPORT a pistol barrel from the US. If 'US Homeland Security' had been standing on the Rainbow Bridge (as they sometimes do, unless it's raining) and I had told them I possessed a barrel I would have been in big doodoo. There are BATF forms to fill out to do this legally.

(let me just say that I didn't realize the legalities at the time...and, of course, will never do this again)

I'm NOT telling you to do anything illegal, I'm simply conveying my experience to you. Please check and adhere to all applicable laws.

PM me if you need any more info about my experience that I was very wrong to do.
