So, the ol' K98 has devolped a crack from the rear of the magwell thru the trigger and up into behind the rear safety. I only noticed now as I've finally decided to cleanup the stock, shoots nicely.

I can spread the seam a bit with hand pressure, so I thought perhaps a wooden wedge to gently persuade it a bit so it will accept some Gorrilla Glue and that would only get between the well and trigger. Or is a drill & dowel type repair more like it? It is a nice shape mismatch and the stock has been sanded somewhere along the line so maybe a Yugo stock from Tradex and put this one away......

I've fixed many cracks like that.

My preference is to use 2 stage epoxy to glue cracks like that. I've had good success with 3m brand epoxies over the years.

Like you mentioned, spread apart the Crack and force epoxy in there with a popsicle stick and then clamp it together with some soft jawed clamps. The key is to make sure that the wood is clean and free from oils which are almost always present in milsurp stocks. I've had best luck with brake clean to get rid of oil and dirt in any stocks that I'm repairing. Give the cracked area a good spray and let it dry, if needed give it a second shot of brake clean. Then spread the crack, epoxy it and clamp. Lastly give the wood a good coating of raw or boiled linseed oil.

That should fix it permenantly.

If it doesn't that's when I consider my options like using dowels or headless screws to pin it all together.
