I decided to modify one of my spare stocks. I'm now looking for different stock designs. I would like to see some of the most funky stocks out there. The more extreme the better. Any pics would be appreciated. Will post pics of before, during and after when complete. Thanks, -Jason

I personally like the look of the McMillan SSG-3000 stock:

WHATEVER YOU DO, don't make it all hippie colored, like so many custom stocks out there :p.

LOL @ the hippie colored. I was kinda thinking a deep blue or a metalic color. Now ya got me thinking tie-dyed! BTW, what is the spacing on the back of the grip to the front of the trigger? -Jason

maynard, I put many hours into a Richards stock, someone has it from Gunnutz, I carved it , polished it, and it looked pretty slick, the fella that got it was planning on a stock for it, but when he got it he changed his mind:D
As far as I know anyway.
I do have a stock I carved up from scratch that turned out nice, and is a center of attention at the range.:D All burl with burl of a different color on the pistol grip and forend cap. Also embedded a puter boars head in the base of the pistol grip.No stock that I have seen looks like this one:eek:

There are some nice stocks on that site Maynard. But I'm looking for some really wierd stuff, almost bordering on extreme. I'll be doing all my own work and pretty much want it to stand out. Keep the ideas coming! (More pics too.):) Thanks again people. -Jason

Here are a few that I put together for ideas.

As wild a shape as you may want, it still has to function. Colour is a new trend and there are some really neat airbrush jobs out there. You can see a few painters through the brcentral.com site.

Sort of like Troy Lee for rifles.

The cut down forend started as a way to cool my barrels quicker during the searing heat of summer. Otherwise, these heavy barrels would take over 1/2 hour to cool. So I can now wrap the barrel with ice cold water soaked rags and the barrel is cool by the time I get back from the target stand.

The other thought was that with nothing around the bottom half of the barrel, it would heat up consistently/evenly. Many of the my match barrels do shoot very consistently even when hot BUT would they behave any differently in a conventional forend stock????

After a while it just became a kind of 'functional' signature.

I've seen that design elswhere, and it certainly makes sense to me, as do the vents in a forend.

I must have seen a version on the "across the course" rifles in the States, but never on a custom bolt rig t]like the ones you make.
Kind cool!:D ( pun INTENDED!)

There is no such thing as a hippie stock. Clint Smith, the owner of Thunder Ranch has an A1 on his personal Robar and it is orange with yellow flames, it is very cool looking. Everything that has been posted here is very cool. You have to do what feels and works best for you.
