I'm just wondering about modifying a stock for one of my guns. I have 2 spare "stock" stocks and would like to modify one of them. It's not possible to order one (gun is limited production from the 60's) and I don't want to pay an arm for one. Can a benchrest stock be comprised of several pieces joined together with screws and epoxy'd smooth? What other methods are available? Thanks, -Jason

If you click on this link and then click on the respective logo's for IBS and NBRSA you will find the rules about stock dimensions. As far as I know the stock can be as many pieces joined together as you want, it is the profile of the stock that has restrictions. http://benchrest.com/

Have a look at my post in Gunsmithing where I mod a Stevens stock for BR shooting. I have done this mod to many stocks over the years. Epoxy is stronger then the wood bonded so there is no issue about strength.

However, you can put dowels or pins to give the bond even more strength.

Just make sure the material has good contact and free from grease, oil or any type of finish. Once all the wood is assembled and shaped, I usually seal with a coat of thinned Epoxy but polyurethane will also work. From there, you can paint as desired.

If not using a common action, there are precious little BR stocks available. Changing the orig stock solves the inletting and is way cheaper then a full custom job.
