Stock Options: Enfield 1917

I may have a BSA enfield 1917 in 30 06 comming my way.

If this pans out, I'm of a mind to change the military stock to make the gun more suitable for use with a scope.

The gun is in good shape but the finish was redone in cold blue and looks like it would not stand up to much wear and tear.

I've considered a camo paint job on the existing gun with some type of added cheek piece for scope use. Suggestions for an add on cheek piece?

Actually, any pictures of you mods on the 17 would be appreciated.

The existing stock is a cut down military stock which has been nicely refinished and fitted with a recoil pad.

Yup, the stock looks oil finishd. I wasn't thinking of wood. More along the synthetic lines. What make is the stock.
These guns are built like tanks, so, I suppose the stock should be and whatever finish eventually gets on the gun.

It is a boyd stock that I got from Western Gun parts. I am using Tru Oil.

Nice rifle Gibbs. I didn't know WGP stock's Boyds or could even get it. Are they worth it, price wise or is a guy better going direct?

I cannot answer that as I never tried boyd's direct.

WGP were pretty good in supplying parts that I needed however!
