As the thread title suggests, I'm looking for stock options for a build that I'm researching before I start buying up parts. Basically it's going to be on a Savage Model 10 action (Hunter Max 1 / Precision Carbine / 12 FCV ... I haven't decided yet) and I'm considering stocks.
I've read a lot about the Choate tactical stock and I'm pretty much sold however the other day I was speaking with a local gunsmith / enthusiast who basically said that Choate is the best of the cheap stuff. I have read good things about Robertson stocks as well and I do like the MacMillan A5 stocks. What am I looking to gain by dropping another 200-300$ on a stock? All seem to come with the butt spacers and I'm not too convinced that I'll need the adjustable cheek piece.
Will be using the build mostly at the range but still want some versatility and not be confined to the bench or prone.
Thoughts or suggestions?
