Stock paint recommendations

Duracoat so far but testing air cure Cerakote as well. Most composite stocks won't take the high temperature which is needed to cure some paints. Duracoat cures fine a room temp, we use it at 60 deg C. Some composite stock are in trouble at that temp already.

What type of finish or look are you after?

For me, the top coat is what makes the colour durable or not... but the look will dictate what types of paints you can use... and that will determine what top coats are compatible.

I’ve tried several different paints. I’m fairly ruff on my stuff no safe queens in my collection getting the job done is more important than trying to keep something in showroom condition, they live or die or get moved along. The best you can do is a splatter paint camo job, any solid colours show up fast as chips and scratches. A good camo job will hide that too.

I agree and if its preped well with a clear coat and let cure properly, its fairly durable. Krylon seems to work well for many applications and if it gets marked up just a quick sand and another coat.

I appreciate the reply. My brother always used arma-coat (basically a Canadian version of duracoat) but the company seems to have gone tits up so I’m looking for a suitable replacment. Duracoat would be the obvious answer but they only ship ups to Canada and tell you upfront you will be hit with brokerage fees etc. I’ve read many good things about Polane-T but unfortunately 4L is the smallest quantity they sell. Endura also gets good reviews and is made in Alberta so that’s a plus.

Are you looking at cerakote because of something you aren’t happy with in the duracoat or just looking to try something else?

Firstly just to try something else and see for our selves if there is an advantage in process or result as in wear resistance etc. We are based in Ireland meaning most things are being shipped in at huge cost.
