Stock painting stand

I am wondering what the best way to place my stock where I can paint it around without missing any spots or having to touch it to flip it over or something.

I was thinking of hanging it from a swivel stud or something then going around it to paint. That sound like a good idea?

I do this as well.

I also have a stand I made up for doing M14 stocks.

ok thought it made the most sense. I am kind of restricted as to where I can paint it and I was probably going to hang it just by the forend instead of hung from the butt as well.

I think I am going to try and find a better location for painting it though where I have more room.
 
Would it be possible to use the hole in the butt of the stock and stand it veritcally? Just a thought, I've never done any stock painting, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

You could as long as the shaft is long enough :)D ) to support the butt from sitting on the base of the stand ( so you can the area under the buttplate and are able to turn the stock).

That's what was in my mind but I guess I didn't type it out;) Some butts will require a pretty long shaft to bottom them out to the satisfaction required.:D
 
Piece of snare wire around the head of the butt plate or recoil pad screw and hang it from where ever. Works great for those single color jobs etc. The rest is of course practice. If you are going to do a pattern etc remember to try a piece of scrap first, but you already knew that. Runs in paint SUCK!
 
Take a 2"x 6"x 10" spruce board. Drill a 1/2 inch hole through the board. Insert a 1/2" dowel about 10" long. Gluing in place would also be good. When you've stripped the stock the butt end may or may not have a hole in it. If it does slide the stock down over the dowel. If it doesnt then re insert the but screw and wrap a tie a heavy string to the screw. When painting turn the stock by putting your finger on the bottom of the butt so you do not touch the wet surface. If your painting a 2 pc stock like a Rem 870 - the butt end will def. have a hole for the bolt. The foreend - DONT PUT ANY SCREWS IN THE WOOD. You could and probably will buldge out the wood on the palm grip. Take a string - silicone it to the inside using a couple of dabs allow to dry and hang by the string next day . When your done use a small knife to cut out the silicone and string.
 
ok NOW i'm logged into my account, sheesh.

The stock I am painting is a HS precision synthetic so I cannot put anything into the butt end because the recoil pad is permanently attached with no screw holes, I am going to have to hang it horizontally through the inside of the action section and the forend swivel stud hole.

I am probably going to build something for it by cannibalizing a couple old pallets at my work and making a hanging stand and using wire or metal coat hangers to hang the stock from.
