How are, say, ebony tip and end caps fastened to a stock? Glue?? Where can one purchase a piece of ebony for a little job like that.

Thanks

It is common to use two correctly placed wood dowels and clear 24 hour epoxy. It needs to be closely fitted and clamped well.

Windsor Plywood usually has ebony.

Here's how I do the tips on my stocks. I use Brownells Acraglas Gel with their black dye.

Excellent. Thank you Mauser98. I purchased a cheap factory birch 10/22 stock and want to tinker with it. One of the things I wanted to do was to put an Ebony grip and end cap on. I have a "real" stock being made by Claude Gatewood out of Medina Ohio.

I forgot to mention that it's a good idea to drill the holes about 1/16" bigger than the dowell. It makes fitting the fore-end tip to the stock a lot easier. The difference is filled by the epoxy.

Thank you. I just checked out Lee Valley's website. Good idea. Thanks again.

I think I am building a monster. I am now looking for a checkering kit. I really am looking foward to making this factory 10/22 stock into a show piece. Well some what I guess.

If you can find a set of dowell center markers. They will help to transfer the marks from one piece of wood to the other.
Nice illustrations Mauser98.Good trick with the bike tube.I am lucky enough to have a set of 48" pipe clamps.I turn the rifle stock to the side so I can glue and clamp the grip cap at the same time.
