I acquired an old Remington model 11 semi-auto shotgun. It is WWII issued, & has the correct U.S military property stamps. All the metal is in fair shape with just bluing wear, very little corrosion. The stock is cracked badly at the wrist & the previous owner (Who apparently used this gun as a guard in the South Pacific) wrapped it with black electrical tape. I removed the tape & now the wrist is covered with sticky tape residue. My question to you all is this: I want to sell this gun. Should I clean the tape residue off & repair the cracked stock? or should I just offer it for sale like it is?

Buy a bottle of Goo-Gone at Canadian Tire to clean off the tape residue then repair the crack.

If the crack is not filled with glue from a previous repair, I'd clean it and repair it. Reinforcing pins across the break could be a good idea for a more solid, permanent repair.

A rag with some varsol or possibly rubbing alcohol should clean up the tape residue easily. If the stock is badly cracked fixing it should only help. You should be able to determine that when you have it cleaned up.
