I purchased a number of butt stocks and was going to replace the butt stock on a #4 because it has a small crack. I am going to put another butt stock with a "limbSaver" recoil pad on a #5. The butt stocks that I bought have a few small dents. I stripped them 3 times with " Circa 1850 " furniture stripper and cleaned it 3 times with Lacquer thinner. I tried Ironing them out with a wet , but not dripping cloth without much luck. Lastly the #5 has a hair line crack about 1" long starting at the rear for-stock, just below the pin. I was thinking about soaking some "crazy glue" into the crack, I hope my description is enough. Maybe you guy's have some better ideas ??? Jack

"...tried Ironing them out..." You have the iron set on 'Cotton'?
"...into the crack..." Use one of the needle style expoxy applicators and a clamp.

When I tried the iron it was on the highest setting. The wood had been stripped and rinsed in water then bleached and rinsed again, the pores should have been open enough for the steam to penetrate. I have accepted the dents as permanent. The one split that I am trying to deal with now is on the end of the butt stock that goes into the action. It has a small chip and a split right next to it. I think I will break the chip out so I can get the epoxy where it needs to be. I'll mask the wood around the chip and the top of the chip so no glue gets on the surface. I doubt if the stain/finish would penetrate the wood if glue got to it first. This butt stock is a spare that I purchased online and I an putting a recoil pad on it. Before everyone starts screaming " Bubba Strikes Again" I am saving all the original parts. I bought a nice #5 carbine that I am using for a Camp gun and want a recoil pad on it. When I sanded the butt flat I saved the sanding dust and I am going to stain it then mix it with the epoxy to repair the missing wood next to the chip that I will glue. So the rifle will be used but could be put back to original issue. Jack

There's the spirit Jack, thanks for keeping it "returnable" :)

Post pics if you can we could probably come up with many potential approaches for the repair,

Lou
