Stock Scope On Savage Edge

Hi Guys,

I received a savage edge in .308 tonight. It came with the stock bushnell scope on it. I was looking through it on the lowest power setting at random things in my house and the cross hairs seemed to wash out when I focused my eye on a target. Is this normal? I have about 10 rounds experience shooting through glass so bear with me.

What do you think would be a fair price to sell the scope and what scopes have you guys put on these rifles?

I have a falcon merlin 1.5-5 IR, but I was saving that for my AR. Anyways, I am a newb in this field so feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
 
The focus "might" be out on the scope, and if so, you can address that at the range next time you go. The scope itself isn't of course the best scope in the world, but it should work for you until you have the money to afford a better alternative; people have taken lot's of game with the cheap scopes.
A good scope for that rifle would be one of the new Redfields, or a Weaver Classic. These are both very good optically, and they won't look silly on the rifle. The current trend towards spending double plus on the optics than was spent on the rifle is rediculous. I don't know anyone who would put Perelli tires on a Hyundi, jet I've seen lot's of people put $2000.00 scopes on $800.00 rifles, and for the record, Your riflescope is sights, not Binoculars.......nor a spotting scope, but sights. I tend to think that if anyone ever says that they missed an animal because their scope wasn't good enough, that they where either trying to do something that they shouldn't be attemping, using a scope that was too big and complex, or covering up their own incompitence.

Try looking at further distances outside the house. Paralax is probably 50 to a 100 yards and close distances will not focus properly.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will try going out in the front yard tomorrow during the day and aiming at all the cars at the end of the road. It's a real busy street so I should find quite a few things to point at.............

I figured its because the items were really close. I will try it out on my next range trip to see how she works. I am not looking at spending big money on another scope. I am just getting into shooting distances longer than 100 yards with accuracy so I rather spend it on ammo. Who stocks the weaver scopes and the other brand mentioned?
 
Yeah, the scope might not be great but it should still be usable. I've seen that on the Savage package guns with the included scope, you can fool around with the adjustments on the scope (unless it doesn't have any parallax adjustment) to get it looking a bit better but you should really try that at 100 yards before you worry too much about it. If you do want to look at scopes, my preference from the affordable options is the Burris FullField II in 3-9x40mm, great all-around scope.
