just bought a savage bvss in 223 and im looking for a good solid stock available in canada. Looked at a boyds thumbhole and really liked it but not sure where i might find one.

Suggestions???
thanks in advance

Dave

That BVSS stock IS a good solid stock. Did you mean to type Fvss ? I'm in need for a BVSS, if your selling I'm buying.

If under $100 Bouds will ship direct. Ricchards Microfit will ship no matter what the price and have a variety of thembhole configurations.

I own the Boyd stock .223 BCTSS and it is great. Well worth getting one.

I haven't even got the gun yet but I know it is a bvss and was considering installing a thumbhole stock for comfort and performance. I don't know a lot about the stock already on it but figured it couldn't be great cause it was a factory install... Back to the Boyds stock though, lionhil, did you have to hollow out your forend on your boyds stock for the heavy barrel. I thought i read that for model 12 heavy barrels, the stock had to be hollowed to fit a heavy barrel.

Thanks guys

The BVSS is one of the nicest shooting stocks on a factory rifle. I doubt you will find the need to change.

But there will be many of us willing to buy.

If you are looking for prefit barrels, please visit my website. I can offer you Shilen and McGowen barrels in an enormous range of chambers and several contours including the Bull contour you are looking for.

Send me either a PM or email. Thanks,

Jerry

Ive been seriously considering this rifle as well in a .223 to buy in the spring.

Mystic: I was wondering though which do you like better between the BVSS and the LRPV? The one reason I was looking at the LRPV over the BVSS is the 1in7 twist and I was kinda looking for a single shot.

Thanks

The LRPV does have a nice HS stock so it boils down to taste and what fits you better.

I like the BVSS stock and for the difference in price, I would invest in an aftermarket barrel with the twist I want. I will end up with a much more accurate rifle for the same money.

No matter the stock, have it properly bedded. The inletting on these stocks is way too generous.

If you are interested, I can help with a variety of services. Please visit my website.

Either way, you will have a very nice rifle. As for a single shot, you can just get a follower to turn the BVSS into a single shot and you have the option of a mag feed down the road.

I have owned a BVSS savage for almost 2yrs now. I've used it for benchrest shooting, coyote hunting, and just good ol' plinking fun with the boys.

I can tell you that with a good glass on it, you'll have no issue with the stock, trigger, or barrel while maintaining your accuracy. I have just started to reload however factory 69grn and a hunting hollow point in 55grn seem to obtain the best accuracy. With the 69grn I'm able to continually keep a .6 MOA. I've used it at 600m and can shoot 1/2 min of elev all day long - I'm still perfecting my wind reading shooting tactical (no wind flags). The 55grn hunting I'm consistantly .85 MOA and they are devastating on gophers in SK (visiting family), ground hogs (NB), and coyotes(NB). I haven't hunted on ranges in excess of 350m (YET).

I personally find the stock to be one of the best I own for feel consistancy with cheek weld, and palm feel. Amoung my collection of firearms I have two sendero Rem 700s and a VSSF in 308. However carrying this hunting is not a fun task. I use it strictly from a blind with a portable bench. I keep it in a drag bag until I reach my area.

I have been told from a local gunsmith that the savage barrels have a limited life compared to some of their competitors. I have no idea what proof he has stating that and have yet to see anything that would lead me to think that as of yet. I'm currently at the 1200 round count on this rifle. If anyone has info they would like to share concerning this I would like to know more.

If anyone is interested, I may have a target with a variation different factory ammo types shot at 100m for testing just after the break in period.

Cheers,

Jake
