stock woes

I have been when time permits been working on repainting a fiberglass stock that Lineman gave me (woot!), however I have hit a snag.

When I repainted it, I was careful to tape up the inside so I would not decrease the width inside for the action to sit in. I was pretty close to the top, and figured I could file down the places where paint got inside.

I didn't get much in there. BUT

When I try and insert the action into the stock, the rear always is not quite inserted, and there is a space about the width of two quarters between the stock and the action at the square part of the rear of the SKS. Needless to say, I am unable to snap the trigger back to the action.

Where are the pressure points that could be causing this inside the stock? I have liberally been going around with my rotary tool cleaning out places where I look to see where contact could be, and so far have not figured it out

Help!

What kind of stock is it? I just finished painting up a Fiberforce and despite taping, I still got paint inside. I shot it with WD-40, wiped, sanded, and filed, and got most of it out, but yeah I also had difficulty getting the barreled receiver to sit low enough in the stock to grab the trigger group. Or so I thought...

What had happened on mine was the little notched springy pin that holds the trigger group in place had been pulled away from it's original position i.e. more space in between the pin itself and the metal right next to it. I hammered on mine with... a hammer, and got it to stay nice and parallel to the...back piece (sorry for the vague description). When I tried it again, it stayed snug. Just to be sure, after I got the trigger to snap into place, I tugged hard on it and then slipped a screwdriver in there and nudged the retaining pin forward over the rear of the trigger guard, just to be safe.

I feel bad about mentioning that I used a hammer on my sks. Please do not hold me accountable if you try it and something breaks.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Its a fiberglass jungle stock, the chicom replica of a military wood stock. Not an aftermarket stock.

where does the action rest on the stock? Is there a way to find where the restriction is not letting it sit all the way down?

The vertical receiver feet bear longitudinally on the stock's mag well recess and the front of the receiver and barrel flat rest on the square shank of the stock re-inforcement bolt. It's possiblt your action isn't far enough back for the receiver's face to slip down over the recoil bolt - I'd look there first.

In the future, fit the stock PRIOR to painting ;)

I admit that I did not bother to try and sit the action in the stock before I broke out the paint

I did however take out the reinforcement screw, and still no-go. the back of the receiver still sits up a tad, enough for the trigger not to clip over the retainer.

I think I am going to grease the bottom of the action and sit it in the stock, and see where skid marks are left  I am assuming that this can't damage the fiberglass if I clean it out afterwards

THis is exactly what I was gonna say you should try. I would grease the stock though as it might be easier to clean then the actionl
