I am looking to Restock a MDL 70 Classic.I was wondering if stocks inleted for the Pre 64 for work.I really like the Mcmillan G&H Style stock but it says for Pre 64's only. Thanks for any help

I did some looking on the McMillan and H-S Precision site.

I saw where H-S Prec. State their sporter stock won’t fit a pre ’64 action, but I didn’t see anything on the McMillan site about their Winchester Classic or Featherweight stocks being model specific. Maybe it is because they literally build every stock from scratch when you order one. I don’t know if you have your heart set on a G&H though.

I would suggest calling or e-mailing them and asking them specifically what they offer for your rifle. I’m waiting for a McMillan stock for my LH Remington 700 BDL. They wanted to know what; barrel contour, magazine type, and caliber I had when I ordered. Now I only have to wait another 2 ½ months before it’s finished.

They were more money than an H-S Precision, but they are unconditionally guaranteed for life. They are also solid layers of fiberglass without any foam used as filler. It will be nice to drop my barrel and action into it when it finally arrives.

Good luck with your decision.

Cheers!

you could also try a Robertson Composites. Right here in Canada and so far have been able to do everything i have thrown at them. Quality and Service is first rate.

the post-63 is slightly deeper and longer than a pre-64. Some styles can be fitted for the other easier than others. The G&H will work with a post-63 if you are willing to do some filling and probably grinding the magazine to be slightly shallower. McMillan used to inlet any pattern for any action you asked for, but they are pretty resistant to doing it now.
