Are aftermarket stocks available for the Remington Model 30? I realize it's a P-17/P-14 action, but I believe the bottom metal was straightened. A family member is looking for a replacement for a badly beat original.

Try out a stock made for the P-17. I have a real nice old model 30 Express that is unaltered.

I understand the remington 30 is an "enhanced" P17 that cocks on bolt opening and not closing like the P-17

Good luck.

You are correct on all counts. I too, have an original, "Remington 30 Express," which belonged to a deceased brother.
The story is that at the end of WW One, Remington was left with a whole lot of P17s. They "sportserized" the original stock, which left much to be desired, because the comb was too low. If you wrapped your hand around the wrist, as normally done, you may end up with a nose bleed! I've seen it happen.
However, I shot my first deer and several moose with that rifle.
