I would really like to un-Bubba an old milsurp I recently got... a Martini-Henry MkIII but since the above stock is for a MkII rifle, I was wondering if any of you fine gents might have a bit of advice for a novice like me, trying to fit a MkII stock onto a MkIII rifle.
I got 3 M/H rifles in the deal, along with 10 boxes of brand new ammo (Jamison headstamp) and the third one, a MkIV is just gorgeous, so it will stay that way... however, both of the MkIII's are a mess. One is in GREAT shape... bore, metal, tight action etc, etc... but came to me with NO wood at all.
The other has a cut-down military stock, which is just awful ... sanded to the tits, and poorly fit to the action. The action and barrel both in really bad condition.
Came with an extra buttstock though... although not correct for either of these Enfields. It is really nice shape, but for a "Henry Barrel Company" rifle (thank you Google). I first thought "Hudson Bay Company" and got all excited ... but then... Lunchbag Letdown.
So anyways, I was thinking of buying the above stock from these guys ( yes I know... WAY too expensive...) but at least I'll get a nice MkIII out of all the screwing around. Sell the leftover parts and stuff on EE.
So... as usual... all comments and suggestions are welcome on attempting this "re-fit".
Or... as some wise local has suggested... just drop the entire mess off at Louthepoo's, ( we both live in Aylmer) write him a cheque, and wait a while.
Like magic, a gorgeous Martini Henry will appear!
