Stoeger 3500 vs. Baikal 153

I hate the stoeger. The feel the fit the function. To me its plastic crap. The baikal 153 now that's a gun worth buying! Mine will kick out everything from 7/8oz light loas to 3.5" magnum goose loads. However sometimes the new hi velocity turkey shells catch on cycling. I haven't seen a semi auto of any brand cycle them yet. The baikal is a simple reliable design and built russian tough

The baikal is a great shotgun when its working, try to get parts for it if something breaks,. I had one and i needed a part baikal canada told me it was atleast a 12 month wait to get the part i needed

kingfisher76, what broke on your Baikal MP153? I've had several of them, and had ZERO problems. In fact, it is my go to waterfowl gun. The MP153 just works!

Cheers

Stoeger - hands down.......inertiadriven....

plus, great costumer service from Stoeger Canada....need a small part and had it in 3 days after I called the dealer :)

After seeing (and shooting) MadTrapper143's MP153 in action, I would have no problem at all recommending one. In fact, if I were to buy a new shotgun, it would be the Baikal.

I was the original owner of that shotgun. It took a little while to break in, but once it was broken in it cycled very well. They aren't pretty guns, but they are good solid utilitarian work horses.

I had a hard time getting super tight (turkey) patterns, and found it a bit on the heavy side, which were my only complaints in ~2500 rounds.

Love my MP153. I call it the swamp witch. Target loads to 3 1/2" steel it goes boom, boom, boom every time. I have the more rare 24" barrelled version. With the long receiver it is balanced perfectly. I am actually considering buying another with 26" barrel and walnut stock. I don't need it I just want it. The take down procedure for cleaning and maintenance is the most simple there is. No rings, washers or other small parts. This gun is made for hard hunting but deserves respect.

My Stoger eats everything. Absolutely everything. I've had it a few years and have put thousands of shells through it. Light target, heavy game, slugs, high vel turkey loads, everything!

The inertia system works flawlessly, very few parts and too easy to clean. Stoger Canada is in ajax and their customer service is great from what I hear. I wouldn't know from personal experience as every Stoger I have owned has functioned as it should right out of the box. It's still peace of mind to know I won't be waiting on parts / service for months or longer as other brand owners need to do.

I'm not sure what brybenn is referring too with the plastic crap comment. My Stoger is all metal and walnut with the exception of the trigger guard like almost every other gun sold by every manufacturer today.

That's the barrel length that me & my brother both have! With the slightly longer 3.5 inch receiver, the 24 inch barrel just looks right & balances so well! Goose season opens TOMORROW for us, I might get out friday if I am lucky!

cabelas has the 3500 and can ship.. It's been out for awhile now. I would do a bit more research before buying it. I had bought my mossberg 930 combo just before the 3500 became available. Luckily my mossberg has been good so it hasn't been a regret.

Funny story tonight....in the goose blind, nothing was flying in but a couple muskrats in the pond...2 of us have MP 153's, rain pouring in the barrels, completely soaked...the one guy has a 3500...goes to shoot at it...CLICK.... tries again....CLICK......pulls out shell...reloads again...CLICK....my buddy shakes the water out of his MP153...BOOM.....I shot mine for safe measure....BOOM....he tries his 3500 one more time...click...we had a good chuckle at his expense....told him he should throw his Stoeger in the pond for good measure...laughed some more at his expense.

Had my mind made up on the 3500, but it seems a lot of guys have are happy with the Baikal. Where can one be ordered? I know I can't find it locally.
