Yes, I did a search already for opinions on this gun and actually did find a few that helped. :p

But the question I have wasn't answered in any of those posts. So here we go:

The Condor Outback looks like a neat little gun for tramping through the bush with and I'm thinking that this might be my next purchase. Two quick questions though for anyone who either owns one or has used one:

1) does the safety really automatically re-engage after the first shot? This seems like it would be rather annoying if you were looking for a fast follow up shot.

2) is the same receiver used for both 12 and 20 gauge models? I'm happy using either 12 or 20 gauge but prefer smaller and lighter guns. If both models use the same receiver, I might as well go with the 12 gauge, but if they use a smaller receiver for the 20 gauge, that'd be my choice.

Thanks guys!

Just bought one of these a couple of days ago in 20 ga and had her out breaking some clays - nice shooting little unit. The safety is a thumb type slide on the upper part of the stock where it joins the receiver, and it does automatically engage when you first close the action but not does not re-engage after firing one of the barrels. Have to get used to switching triggers for your quick follow up second shot though. As for the second part of your question I have no idea.

Well thank you! :) I had all but given hope on this thread. I found out from another source that the 20 gauge and 12 gauge models do indeed both share the same receiver so it makes more sense for me to pick up the 12 gauge model.

Enjoy your new gun! :)

Out of curiosity, what did you mean by "switching triggers?" My understanding was that the Condor Outback came with a single trigger.....are those also being offered with DTs now?

Moreover, have you had an opportunity to test how those bbls are regulated for slugs?

A lot of people do not like that the safety re-engages when the barrels are snapped shut, particularily trap shooters. If you find you don't like it either, you can check out the stoeger forum over at shotgunword for links to instructions for disabling that feature.

My mistake - I was referring to the wrong model. The one I was speaking of is a side by side. However, I do also own an over-under Condor Outback - but the safety on it works the same - it automatically engages when the action is closed initially, but does not re-engage after firing the first barrel.
