Hi guys, wanna pick your brains a little, now I've been
Around guns all my life, and I do realize u get what U
Pay for most times, but as of recent I made a trade with
A very kind CGN member, who was who was shocked when
I reported to him the iga uplander 20 sxs we traded on
Misfired the left barrel ??? Now this gun is virtually brand new
Out of box cond, he had fired a few through it and had no issue
I used federal upland load 1oz #6 shot 2 3/4" loads
Put 2 shells in, fired front trigger " BANG" then left
" tink" no fire, waited a few seconds, opened Breech to find
A very minor mark on primer, closed gun and tried again
"BANG". So I proceeded to load again, fired left first
" tink" then right " BANG", Re cocked and fired left
"BANG" , so I tried 2 Winchester brand shells a friend gave
Me to try , left went " bang" right went bang
Tried 2 more federals, both went bang! Hmmmm, went
Online, apparantly happens with the 20 gauges more often
Packing oil inside gun?? And stock Inletting are the culprits??
Has anyone had this issue with their uplander sxs
 
Don't own one but just as I started reading the post the 1st thing came to mind was have to totally cleaned it since new or not sounds like it is gummed up with old oil or grease

Mine misfired on front trigger after maybe 200 rnds of skeet. The gun I bought new and I called the distributer in Whitby , Ontario to explain the problem. They got me to mail it to them and fixed it and sent it back maybe a month later free of charge. They changed the firing pins and hammer springs. Works good now, it happens with these stoegers, but it also happens with the Browning O/Us too. Two Browning shooters at my skeet club have several misfires every weekend and are going to have to shim their hammer springs or stretch and re-temper them. Sxs and O/U guns can be finiky compared to pumps. Easy enough to fix...
 
I found the culprit, stock Inletting!!!
Hammer was rubbing the stock as its released
Actual wear mark into wood
I used a flat chisel and removed excess material
Works like a charm now with all ammo
Was some factory oil inside but nothing to stop it
I did remove firing pin bushings and clear pin channels
Nice solid hits evenly on both sides
 
Glad you figured out the problem and that it's relatively minor (hey, you don't have to send it back in for repairs!).

If you removed some wood and broke the "finish barrier", don't forget to put SOME finish on it after you exposed the bare wood. If it's on the inside, it doesn't have to match the existing finish (although, I would think you might want to ask where you got the shotty for a tiny bit of the finish they used).

Good for you. Observe symptoms, disassemble and diagnose, correct problem, reassemble, test. Well done. You just saved yourself 3 months of waiting.
