Opinions from first hand experience? I am looking at buying a silverado model, but from some Yankee friends I hear the gun has problems even firing sometimes! I would hate to get myself into sending a gun back and forth to get it working, assuming there is even customer service this side of the border.

Can't say about that model, but I just got rid of a Stoeger IGA O/U that I had for 10 years. It was OK at best. It got VERY light use for about 8 the frist years that I had it (bought new), then recently a lot more use when I got back into hunting and clay shooting. After a season of heavy use it started firing both barrels at once every 50 shots or so. The 'smith knew what the problem was, but suggested that to fix it might not be worth it for a cheap old gun (Le Baron has them on special for <400&). Anyhow, I offloaded it for 250$ (and was honest about the problem). Personally, I would not buy another stoeger product - based on my own personal experience with the firearm and with the company (customer service) and what I have heard from others.

A while back I was considering buying one of these. I did some research on the web & found that there were a number of people complaining about problems with them. They seem to break down fairly quickly & then getting them repaired is not the easiest.
So I decided to not buy one.

I've shot 50 000+ rounds thru my old condor o/u since I joined my gun club in 1990. I hav eyet to have a problem with it. The other two fellows (not sure their round count but 30 000 + for sure) that have the same model have had the same luck as me. Now the acvtion lugs are worn and the halve close up real easy but other than that they are a great deal for the $$$. I wouldn't hesitatein recommeneding them as a low to mid-level (depending on model) entry type o/u.

Regards,
