Stoeger X20

I had an X20 brought to me for assessment because the owner couldn't hit a thing with the gun, even at 10 yds.

What I found after spending some time shooting the gun, was that in spite of a much too heavy trigger, it would shoot quite accurately with the right pellet. The owner of the gun was using some cheap Chinese brand of pellets, and that was the problem. By using a good pellet, the groups went from a shotgun pattern at 10 yds, to dime size 10 shot groups.

The five pellets that gave me the tightest groups, ranging from dime size to quarter size at 10 yds, in the gun that I had here were:
1) Crosman Premier Light (1250 count boxed type)
2) Champion Alouette Heavy
3) H&N Barracuda Match
4) H&N Field Target Trophy
5) Crosman Ultra-Mag

Groups were shot from a seated position with elbows rested on knees.

Thanks for that info. Yes, the heavy/poor trigger was the one constant complaint. But apparently you can get an after market trigger that supposedly makes a world of difference. Is that correct?

How are the vibrations with the X20? Can the trigger be polished?

I have a very cheap Stoger X5 and it has a lot of vibration. Perhaps all it needs is a good cleaning and a proper lube.
And before you ask,yes the trigger on the X5 is heavy too.

I know that an aftermarket trigger is available, but cannot comment on it's effectiveness, since I have not shot one of the guns equipped with one.
Comments that I have read on-line have been favorable.

The X20 does have some vibration and a bit of twang, but not as bad as some guns that I have shot. A properly fitted spring guide would probably remedy that.
I never got into the trigger mechanism, so can't comment on whether it can be improved upon without going to the aftermarket trigger.

I own a x20 and I really like it and most of my friends want one now to. I don't mind the trigger but I kinda want to try that upgraded one. I also found the Crossman pellets work nice with this gun. I did however wash my pellets before using them with this gun
