Howdy all, can anyone clarify for me the legal storage and display regulations for antique percussion revolvers?

I'd like to put some on display in my basement but I am unsure if the standard "restricted" regs would apply to "antique" class revolvers (ie. securly fastened to a wall and disabled with a cable lock).

Thanks

AFAIK if they are a regulation antique they are a non-gun and not subject to any storage laws at all. If they are reproductions of any kind they fall under all the storage regs for handguns because handguns are evil and wicked. Check out the CFC website or your RCFSC books. They should tell you.

I think if you read the regs closely you will find that antiques have to be stored the same as modern guns. In the case of the pistol, you may want to remove the mainspring as well as securing it to the wall. That disables it and meets the intent of the law while not having an unsightly lock on the gun

Heres the link for the CFC website portion thats applicable, and below is the relevent section

Safety Regulations

Under the Firearms Act, antique firearms must be stored, displayed and transported unloaded.

If you are transporting your antique firearms and need to leave them unattended*, leave them in your vehicle’s locked trunk or similar compartment. If your vehicle does not have a trunk or compartment, lock the vehicle and leave the antique firearms inside and out of sight.

Antique handguns must be locked in a heavy-duty, non-see-through container that cannot be easily broken open during transportation.

* Unattended means a vehicle that is not under the direct and immediate supervision of an adult (18 years of age or older) or a minor (with a minor’s licence).

OK i got A Question
So do Antique Handguns have to be stored in a locked container when im just driveing to the range??
Or can they just be in a soft case or holster unloaded??

I ask cause the way i read the regs the Antique Handgun must be in the locked case if im there with it or leave it in the Car.

A buddy says i can have it laying on the seat if i want as long as its unloaded.

Can someone clear this up for me. Stupid Regs are hard to figger sometimes

The way I read the regs is that antiques are to be treated as modern guns except that they do not need to be registered and that you do not need a license to possess or acquire them.

Imagine getting pulled over on the way to the range because you had a tail light out (or something else you didn't know about), and the cop coming up to your window, who then see's a couple of big bore revolvers in holsters (nice western rigs just for visual aid  ) sitting on the passenger seat.:D Somehow I think things could get very ugly before you could even begin to spit out the word "antique".. I suspect that you and the cop may be in need of a change of undie's.:D
