I am going to an IPSC match in Kingston, ON (I live in Ontario as well) this month and will be staying there for two days, taking the wife. We plan on doing a few things around town after the match, do I just leave my pistol in my hotel room? Make's me nervous, you just never know with staff these days. Or can I keep it in my car while out?

Do not disturb sign and TV on. Give the impression that someone is there, if I see staff in the halllway I make point of saying goodbye, or I'll see you later as I leave the room to give the impression it's still occupied.

I don't shoot IPSC but if I was out of town and shooting my pistols would be locked in my car under a boat load of work clothes in the trunk . if you have a safe in the room it had better be a good one and I hope no one else could get into it . like the hotel manager or former residents. and if they ask what your doing in town tell them your visiting your cousin who's in for murder and getting out soon . LOL . I'm sure your room won't be disturbed by the staff.

When I was moving inter-provincially, my first idea was to do the same as most of you - hide them in the vehicle. I asked the CFO about it when I applied for the temp ATT. He said the best thing is to leave them in a locked case in the room.

Either way is safe and legal providing that it is in a locked case with trigger lock. I usually keep mine in the car, but I have also left it in the hotel room locked and never had an issue.

Keep it your car. In the trunk, out of sight, out of mind. An legal too.

A few years ago there was a major IPSC match and a number of vehicles containing firearms were broken into and guns stolen. I don't remember the specifics, but I'm sure someone will post the details.

I always bring my pistols into the room and lock them in the room safe when one is available. I keep them locked in their hard case when a safe isn't available.

Has anyone else noticed the network wide stories on firearms in checked airline baggage (in the wake of the Florida shootings)? Both on local and national news casts. Reporters interviewing travelers at Canadian airports (who no idea this was allowed in Canada-should be a law against that!). Typical media white wash.

The hotel should have a large safe that could hold your firearm ..I'd check with them before travelling
Hmmm, I stay in hotel rooms all the time through government travel. I have NEVER had a hotel room with a safe, here in Canada. I have had hotel rooms with safes when travelling to the USA though. My next business travel, I will ask them if they are available, just for interest sake.

I do travel a lot with my handguns.

I put it in the Hotel Room Safe.
If no safe, it's in the locked case with a trigger lock, in my locked luggage - with the luggage put away in the closet as it normally would be.

Don't leave gun-identifying stuff in the room to give cause to snoop further.

I'm saying at the front desk or admin office to be clear

Yes I agree fully on your comment. If I'm in my room, them my guns are too. If I leave my room an going to use my vehicle then they come too.
