Hello,

I`m new to the hobby and have a question about the above. I haven`t got any guns yet as I am waiting for my licence to arrive...but.....need to make sure I know how to properly and the legalities of storage.

I remember from the safety courses being told that firearms need to be stored in a separate, locked room or area.

My question is this.....since I live in an apartment do I still need to store them in a room or closet etc that has a lock on it or does the apartment itself constitute a `lockable area`.

If the apartment is not considered a loackable area then do I need to put a lock on a closet or buy a gun safe or something similar.

All input is appreciated and thanks for reading.

Get a lockable case. If its restricted - trigger lock and lock on case. If non restricted - trigger lock then put in unlocked case (or lock if u want but you don't have to). Look at the stickies in the legl forum for more info. Now go buy some guns!

Now do you live alone or not and do you never want to live with anyone ever. Do you have a girlfriend/boyfriend (not going to assume gender or ###ual orientation) who may spend the night or you might want them to at some point.Do you ever take other peoples children for a weekend such as a niece or a nephew. Do friends ever come over since in order to do so they must enter the storage area of the firearm unlicensed.

Do you ever need to leave you place open for the service people to enter to fix things do keep in mind your super/office manager has access to the unit if there is a need to for instance track a large leak or something else. Are you always able to miss work if your super gives you 24 hours notice to enter the unit.

I wouldn't consider it as such it has to also be as I remember it a specially modified room. I doubt your apartment was designed to store firearms.

As others have said a container to transport with a trigger lock on and locked is enough to store a restricted.

If I was starting over again I would pick up a small gun cabinet not a safe just a cabinet before I got guns. Easier to keep them organized and out of the way. The closet thing works but that means it's totally dedicated to the guns if you have anyone living with you. Canadian tire has an 8 gun one for $149.99. $50 more then what I paid for my .22Lr and $36 less then I paid for my SKS and $300 (?) or so less then what I put out on the 30-06. Just for comparison. If all you get is a hand gun there are some inexpensive cabinets for like $100 or less. and considering a pistol is at $200 to $1000+ in cost 100 just doesn't seem that bad. :)

Personally, I wouldn't get a safe with an apartment.
