Hello everyone, I am new to CGN and firearm ownership in general. I had a quick question regarding ammunition storage. I want to store my handgun in my bedroom (locked up) with the ammo inside the safe. Now, at times my bedroom can get kind of hot due to my computer and poor ventilation. Could this potentially be a problem if I were to store my ammunition in my room, or does temperature not really matter as long as the ammunition stays dry?

Thanks in advance!:)

:eek:Anything over room temperature and there is a good change of an explosion!

Room temperature where? My house at 20 degrees or a house in Egypt that could be near 50? So don't leave it in your car or...kablooey :jerkit:

Your ammo will be fine if your house gets a bit warm. If it catches fire then it's a different story.

In theory, cold is not an issue. Hot weather will cause ammo to age faster.

I have tested 20 year old military ammo that came from different bunkers. Ammo that spent its storage life in the hull of a ship was much better than ammo stored in a shed in the desert.

I once left some commercial match ammo in Bisley. The room was unheated. The next year the ammo sucked. I can only assume the cold weather did somehting to it. Would not thought that was possible.

The trick is (with smokeless powder anyway) is to avoid rapid, wild temperature fluxuations. Say storing in the trunk of a car in the summer with a temp changes of say 30 deg C in 24 hours. Cool and dry is ideal, but it's regular cycles of rapid temperature changes that cause the chemical makeup of the components to break down.
