Hey guys just wondering if anyone has any real, first hand experience with leaving elastic shotshell loops loaded up and having them wear out over time. I have always had this in my head so it’s what I practice but recently realized I’ve never heard it from someone with direct experience. So, have any of you gentleman ever loaded up an elasticicated shot shell holder and stored it as such and what was your experience: did the retention hold up ?

I've had 3 of the esstac cards loaded for about 5 years now and they still hold rounds very well. Not as well as they used to, so perhaps you are right in your thinking. Mine also get used and cycled though, if that means anything.

I used to store a dozen 12 ga. shotshells in a USGI OD shell pouch. I checked them after several yrs of storage and was very surprised when I opened
the pouch. Almost every round was covered in what looked like corrosives/rust on the brass. I definitely wasn't going to shoot them.
They were always stored high and dry. Never seen that before. I suspect it originated from the two steel Alice clips on the pouch, so I wrapped the shells up
and had the police stop by to pick them up and give them to their TSTeam to dispose off. Trashed the pouch too.

Other factors will contribute significantly to life of the elastic such as quality and environmental elements like UV and perspiration

my shellholder barely has any tension left
I'll get a leather one next time I feel like carrying lots of shells

Have Esstac and S&J Velcro cards that have been loaded for 3-4 years that still hold shells fine, not as tight as when brand new but plenty tight that they don’t fall out while stomping through the bush or bouncing around on the quad in a kolpin rack.
