So I'm packing to move and I come across about 8lbs of powder in boxes/bags from Higginsons. Bags were twisted off and wrapped around. Now doing a smell test vs a can it seems rather weak in it's scent. Powders in question are H-4350 and H4895. One of my boxes of H4350 was never unsealed and I haven't checked it either. Still good or garbage?

Still Good! This was the way Thomas originally shipped all his powder in 4lb and 7lb quantities.
I have some powder still in original bags/boxes that I bought in the early 90's....It is all just fine. [47N and W760 SL10]
As long as it is not full of "rust" or does not smell acidy, it is just fine to use.

Dave, you should also have mentioned clumping or sweating. Some of the powder of Higginson's went bad after a few years. #44 for example went rusty and gave off some very noxious/corrosive gasses. Some 47N, similar to VVN160 or H4350 started to clump and sweat in the bags. If it is all nice and gray and without serious clumping, it should be fine. Just about any powder that has been left in one place for any length of time will form clumps but will break up easily when shaken. Have you ever seen anyone that doesn't shake a can of powder slightly when they pic it up???
