So here is a question: I have a couple of crates of surplus ammo, still sealed in a factory tins. Was storing it in the garage, it isn’t heated. Is that ok or should I keep it in the house?

I have seen videos where they dig up old WW2 eastern front battle sites and find cans of ammo.

When opened the rounds looked as fresh and viable as any other round I have seen when opening a can. If the seal is intact the can and ammo will last centuries under the right conditions.

If it did that daily could be a problem, but over a year not a problem. Also if your garage is attached to your home the temp swings will be less erratic.

I don't think cold affects powder and primers as much as heat and humidity . if your garage is well insulated then it would be okay but I'm not sure if high temps will affect the ammo in the future. keep it off the floor and cover it up with something . on another note you don't want someone breaking in your garage one day and the neighbours have called the cops and your not home and you have some explaining to do about the ammo crates when you get home. you could cover them with something on a bottom shelve in the garage and put a pesticide sign on them .this is just my opinion. better safe than sorry.
