Storingmy AR-15, legal??

At the moment i don't have any more room in my gun safe to store my AR, so what i did was remove the entire bolt assembly and put it in the safe and just put the rifle in my closet without the bolt in it....

is this legal??

No.
A restricted firearm has to be rendered inoperable by a locking device, and locked up.

Do that with one of your bolt action rifles.

Lock the lower in the safe. Upper is a non issue

yeah just lock up the lower, the upper put it anywhere you want, only the lower needs to be locked up.

I put the lower in the safe along side the bolt.

Remember the double locked rule back when you took your RPAL and PAL training course, the firearm has to be behind 2 locks,it could be the front door of your house locked, and then a trigger lock.
