For you Cooey buffs. Anyone see anything strange about this model 82?

It looks like it's had the barrel replaced with a longer barrel, or the forestock has been cut back at some point in the past. The barrel is certainly sticking out further than normal. The front sight is supposed to sit inbetween the sight guards and the muzzle should be flush with the end of the stock.

My guess? The middle band was not gripping the forestock and the forestock was loose as can be a common problem with those guns. Solution? Cut off the worn out part of the forstock and set it back. Looks like it may have taken a couple tries to get it snug lol.

Bingo! :agree: I just wanted to show this because this gun is coming up for auction. If this gun is military marked, an unsuspecting buyer might pay a fair dollar thinking they are getting an originl configuration 82. The value should be reduced considerably. Just shows you have to pay attention to detail.

I was thinking along the lines of:

"There's a Cooey out there that gunsaholic doesn't have in his safe"

Does seem a touch "nosey", and honestly...I'm no collector, I would pick up on a sight a few inches ahead of it's protective "ears"...Also, working on an older [and now blurry] screen, I don' see the rear peep either.

Is the barrel actually too long, or the wood n' band too short?

The wood has been cut back as it also has been rounded off. The 82 has a 27" barrel. I'm not sure if Cooey made a longer barrel. And yes, it does not have the rear peep sight. Funny thing with these 82's is that some had the peep sight and no rear barrel sight, some had the rear barrel sight and no peep sight and some had both sights. A new forend wood could be installed but what I was saying is buy accordingly.
