Good going guys. Some good answers, but it's plain that jaydog knows just how big those prairie grass hoppers get!
I readied my 35mm camera, held it down around my knees, aimed slightly above the horizon, then made a dash into a weedy area. When a bunch of grasshoppers took to flight, I tripped the shutter. Tried it two or three times and came up with this.

does anyone have a guide on how to 'gut' a grasshopper? only thing that comes to mind for me is step on it and pick up the remnants.Looks like there is some good meat on those.
