Strange markings on my SVT40 sniper. Anybody seen these before?

Hello,

I posted this over in Red Rifles and haven't heard back. Can anyone tell me about these markings? Import marks is what I'm thinking... The one on the barrel and the tiny eagle over the "N" on the left of the receiver and bolt carrier just above it.

Standard modern german proof marks for guns imported into Germany, many of the Ukrainian guns transisted through Germany before coming to Canada. Marks on receiver above the 1940 date are standard arsenal refurbish markings.

Yep, the SVT import maybe 6 or 7 years ago had those markings. The more recent import did not go through Germany and hence does not have those markings. They are not technically import markings if I recall, but rather they were a German export requirement.

"arent the 3 crowns swedish? "

Not this type, as stated above three crowns in a shield are for the Cologne proof house.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. everyone. I can maybe see why they put them on the barrel, but I wonder why they would also put that little bird one on the reciever and bolt carrier.
