....I have an unusual shotgunning accessory called an Abercrombie & Fitch (1961 vintage) Beer Can Launcher. It is a hand held device for launching empty beer cans in the air by using a .22 calibre blank as a rocket booster. The only internet reference that I have seen is a 1961 A&F advertisement. Has anyone else ever seen one of these? Any information would be helpful....thanks in advance.....

Yes, I once saw it at a Gun show in Kamloops.
But there are modern ones that use .308 blanks .. for launching tennis balls and all sorts of interesting projectiles.
basically it works by using the expanding gasses to push the beer can out of a holder in the same manner as a mortar would push out a mortar shell/ or a similar manner to a rifle grenade.
kind of like this device.

Yeah, I've seen the fella with his tennis ball launchers in Burnaby at the HACS show, too... although that was maybe five years ago?

If I remember rightly (and it's early, and I haven't finished my first cup of coffee yet... SO BEAR WITH ME!), he also had some interesting chamber-sized inserts for centrefire (and 12GA) that would hold a .22 cartridge, and launch it from a 2" barrel in the insert.

Fun days, then.

I'd love to shoot randomly launched stuff over sporting clays

Sure sure sure it can be made, but knowing my luck, i would "alter" it and it would blow up in my face
