My pal and I were out last thursday afternoon chasing ruffies around. Numbers are way up from last couple years as we put 19 up within the last two hours of daylight. Came close but didn't manage to fill our limits... but hey were not starving!
Having a cool one on the tailgate after dark when something starts screaming a short distance to the south. Now I'm not scared of the dark or anything but this blood curdling scream went on and on and made the hair on the back of my neck stand up! At first we thought it was a hesterical teenager screaming for help but that didn't add up. Have been in the bush for 35 years and have heard timber wolves and coyotes howl, foxes bark, rabbits scream in agony, etc. but nothing ever like this before.
Got home and downloaded some cougar sounds and behold, one was real close. Sounded like a tortured drawn out "wayyyaaalllp" for a lack of better explanation.
I know in the past cougar have been sighted in the area and just wondering if anyone else has had a experience like this? Maybe you fellas from the west coast and rocky mountain regions of the country were cougars are common can add something?
