Lets say there is stress on a scope and it is zeroed more or less at minimum magnification. Later the scope is on max. magnification at the same range will grouping change and-or will rnds. hit a different part of the target, or simply a scope under stress will never zero.

"...stress on a scope..." Can you define that? A properly mounted variable scope should not change POI when you change the magnification. However, you need to define what you mean by 'stress on a scope'.

Stress? Take a prozac!:D

I had that on one of my rifles and I had some problems with the mounts first. As with misalinged mounts there is greater stress on them, them on the scope if the alingment is minor. If is grossly misalinged, you would have trouble mounting the scope.

I have had a couple of scopes that shot fine at low power then after the magnification increased the point of impact shifted. I tore them off and sent them in for repair. A scope should not shoot any diffently because of magnification change If you want to cure scope stress don't buy cheap optics.

Though if you sight in at a high power it tends to wander when lowered, (or vise versa, I don't currently own a variable just fixed leopold and Buris, well one variable airgun scope.
