Evening all,

I’m looking at picking up a laser dry fire system for some pistol training at home. Knowing jack ####e about them, I’m wondering if anyone who owns or has used one could chime in and give feedback and or recommendations on either of the two systems in the title.

Cheers!

I do not have handgun specific handgun information but I do have rifle information. Strikefire does not work in a lever action 30-30. I tried the laser in a Winchester, Henry and a marlin and it is always lit up. I contacted the company, they sent me a new laser cartridge and it does exactly the same thing. Check their website for some specific firearm related info. I was considering trying 45acp but it says on the website that it will not work in the Ruger sr1911...

If you want to get similar results and save some money, consider getting Ben Stoeger's book "Dryfire".

Ben is an IPSC world champion and shooting coach. His round count for a GM is almost unbelievably low compared to others. He emphasizes grip and sight movement awareness.

I bought a Coolfire Trainer for my P320 X5, and it simulates recoil, which is a vast improvement over watching the laser bounce. For the money, Ben's book and dryfire drills are the best investment in improving shooting performance.

Copy of what I posted in a recent thread on the same topic:

I don't think there is anything wrong with any of the laser training systems from a technical hardware standpoint and they would hinge on what kind of firearm you are using and also the type of target(s) you are intending to practice with.

From a laser emitter hardware standpoint, it would be mostly based on the type of firearm you are using/converting. The most basic are basically a snap-cap with a button primer (which are probably easiest in a DA trigger pistol). The more complex option for striker-fired pistols would be something like laser emitter in conjunction with a smart dry-fire mag (to reset the trigger). An even more advanced option would be a CO2 or green gas-based laser conversion barrel of either a regular pistol or airsoft replica that offer recoil feeling (This is more expensive and kind of tedious unless you have access to lots of gas).

Mantis is inertia-based motion detection as I understand. So different but has similar effect as the more based laser systems.

In my opinion, the more interesting preference consideration would be in the training software and types of drills offered in determining which system works better for you..
